CEO transitions are the place where staffing and strategy are most closely intertwined. An effective transition should therefore look a lot like a good strategic planning process: it takes a well-constructed Board, a clear-eyed needs assessment, and clear and appropriate governance procedures. Like strategic planning, it also requires some flexibility: it has been said that true leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders—who will take your organization in imaginative and unforeseen directions. Nancy Racette will talk about how to align Board structure, long-term planning, and organizational culture to set the stage for an effective transition wherever you are in the process.

• Learn how to prepare and set up an organization for a successful leadership change
• Identifying key components to align Board structure with organizational culture
• Understand staff roles in the transition and on boarding
• Learn about organizational financial implications to transition
