Our records show you’ve been a member since 2012! Thank you! Why do you value being a member of FAR?

How time flies…can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years. Being a part of the FAR family has provided so many great experiences, connections and friendships but most importantly a deeper understanding of the non-profit community, its leaders, successes, issues and challenges.

What is your favorite movie?

This is a really tough one for me but I’ll go with Marvels, Avengers. Those movies aligned perfectly with my kids ages/interest and there’s been so many great films in the series since Iron Man in 2008.

What are your favorite hobbies?

My favorite hobbies would have to start and end with golf. I’ve been playing my entire life and I’m currently a 6 handicap. I also really enjoy being outside - running, hiking, snow skiing, camping, etc.

What services does your firm provide that can help FAR nonprofit members?

My firm, West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors (WLS), is a leading tenant-only commercial real estate firm that has helped the non-profit community evaluate and understand their real estate options and solutions for almost 25 years. As an industry specialist, WLS understands that the decision-making process, cost metrics and use requirements of associations are vastly different than other users. We have the resources and have developed unique strategies to ensure that our clients make the best choices aligned with their mission and goals.

The real estate process can be complex, especially during these unprecedented times; and the one thing we know for certain: the role of the office will never be the same. WLS acts as our clients strategic partner navigating your office space solutions in this post-COVID world.

What lesson have you learned from the pandemic that you are implementing moving forward and would like to share?

When thinking back throughout the pandemic, patience has emerged as the most important lesson learned. At the beginning of the lockdowns I thought, like many, that the pandemic would be “resolved” in a week or so. How wrong we were! Patience has been critical in navigating quarantine, its impacts and uncertainties. Patience has also been crucial in waiting for our government to sort through strategies and implement different PPE and PPP programs. Certainly, patience was key as our talented scientists and pharma companies created and distributed the vaccine. Now more than ever, patience is necessary to take each day as it comes, to prepare for unexpected challenges, to deal with whatever comes our way. The pandemic has highlighted the resiliency of humanity and forced us to learn to thrive in an era of uncertainty. Our patience is being put to the test daily, but I have faith in the human spirt to carry on.
